Description: Extremely rare 1902 billhead signed by Samuel Brinckerhoff Thorne. "Brinck" Thorne was an All-American halfback for the Yale Bulldogs from 1893-1895. Head coach of the Yale football team in 1896. He was involved in multiple coal mining companies before passing away in 1930. Posthumously inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1970. This particular billhead was signed when Thorne was the general manager for Temple Iron Company in Scranton, PA. I've included his brief biography from 'Football Y Men 1872-1919' which notes Thorne was the general manager for Temple Iron from 1901-02. Also provided a digital example of Thorne's autograph from his Yale Alumni file for comparison (not included in this sale). Fantastic autograph of this early Yale football legend.
