Description: Dominion of Canada 25 cent fractional note dated January 2nd 1900. This is the DC-15a as it has Courtney's signature and the "OTTAWA" lettering on the obverse. Made by the American Bank Note company in Ottawa. Note the missing lettering in "Canada" on the obverse, which does not appear to be the result of wear or solvent and may be an error in printing as the alignment of the letters, when compared to other such notes, indicates the printing of "Canada" was both incomplete and misaligned (but we have not been able to confirm). On a normal note, the "d" in "Canada" aligns to the left of the "S" in "CENTS" below. Free shipping in the US! Will ship in a flexible, protective currency sleeve. History:On behalf of the Canadian government, the American Bank Note Company added the 25-cent (also known as the shinplaster) to the denominations of Dominion of Canada banknotes in 1900. These notes feature one signature by the then Deputy Minister of Finance. The signature of J.M Courtney had the word "OTTAWA" in bold black letters on the right side of the signature whereas those signed by his successors do not.
