Description: Rare 18th century carved Adams period fireplace mantel. This mantel has a carved basket in the center panel, carved urns over the legs, bellflowers and carved swags and ribbons. It also has beautiful egg and dart moldings and applied gesso and wood designs throughout. This mantel measures 53" x 42" at the opening, 66" x 64" outside and 71" at the shelf. There are some pieces of the carvings and gesso missing as well as a small chip off the top right of the shelf. These could be easily repaired, or kept as is.
