Description: The Works of the late right honorable Henry St John, Lord Viscount Bollingbroke. Printed in London in 1777. This lot inclides volumes one, three, and five only. All three show wear to the extremities, spine covers and hinges, the latter of which are fragile in all cases. Foxing and browning. Volume five complete. Volume 3 front board detached and missing. Volume 1 front and back panels detached but present. Volume 5 both boards attatched but front board is coming loose towards the top. Original boards. Bolingbroke fell out of favor with the kingdom of George I and made an ill-advised exile to France. Eventually he returned which led to his best known writings, A Letter to William Wyndham and Reflections Upon Exile, both of which are included in Volume One. Very heavy books weighing 6.5kg hence the high postage charge. Please see photos as these form part of the description. Worldwide tracked shipping.
