This was made in 1899 by Springfield Armory. This bayonet was based on the Swiss M1889 bayonet. Overall, this bayonet is in Fair Plus - Good condition, considering its age and history. The press catch is functional with average-stiff spring tension. Both the pommel and guard are securely fastened to the tang. They have light-moderate erosion and oxidation. The rivets securely fasten the grips with light oxidation. The wood grip panels have scattered light compressions and draglines. The wood has darkened with time. The shortened knife appears straight and not bent. The spine, fullers and sides have light-moderate oxidation and scrapes, most notable on the left hand side of the blade. The blade's cutting edge has no nicks or dings and appears to have its original factory edge (blade has been cut-down). The tip is intact and comes to a semi-sharp slightly-bent point. The remaining finish has turned a darker gray patina color. The left ricasso is marked "1899" and the right ricasso is marked "US" with no other visible markings. The scabbard is NOT included with this bayonet. This bayonet will be a great addition to your Krag rifle, or to a bayonet collection in general.
