Description: "In the late nineteenth century, mediums across the country were busy delivering messages from the dead to anyone who would listen. And there were plenty who would. Often these words from beyond appeared on slates during sances. But the brand of magic that mediums offered was nothing more than that-magic. Author William E. Robinson, an accomplished magician who worked as a stage manager and assistant to Alexander Herrmann and Harry Kellar, knew all the tricks of the trade. His book, Spirit Slate Writing and Kindred Phenomena, published in 1898, explains them all. He was not hostile to spiritualism or those who believed in it, but was determined to expose those who would defraud believers seeking knowledge of deceased loved ones. His background in stage magic made him an ideal debunker of clever tricks. "Spirit Slate Writing and Kindred Phenomena" stands as the only known book authored by William E. Robinson, who later gained fame as the stage magician "Chung Ling Soo." This book is very scarce and sought after by collectors of magic and occult books alike! It is not often that you will come across this book and especially in this condition. Condition of the book is good. There is no internal writing or tears, and everything is tightly bound. Some pages contain some foxing, minimal fingerprint soiling, and tanning. There is a sticker where the publisher text would be, torn from the upper right edge, but not fully across. I believe it says "Stanyon's Magic Books". Cover has some slight soiling and wear, as well as the spine. Overall this is an amazing book to add to any antique collection. Thanks for looking. :)
