Description: 1899-1902 First Model W L MARBLE No. 3 Safety Pocket Axe Marbles in excellent condition. Manufactured in Gladstone, Michigan, between 1899-1902. 11"Weight: 20 oz. (19.7 oz., to be precise). Black Gutta Percha Handle. Marking, Axe Head: "PATENTED MAY 24, 1898" (faint) in a circle surrounding the front bolt. Has a stamped "3" Hound and Hare design on the front handle, with "MARBLE'S SAFETY POCKET AXE" and "MF'D BY W.L.MARBLE GLADSTONE, MICH" on the reverse. Handles are free of chips or cracks. Blade guard snaps well on close. All parts are tight without looseness or wobble.
