Description: I have here for sale a book entitled VISITS TO MONASTERIES OF THE LEVANT by the Honourable Robert Curzon Junior, with maps and illustrations. First edition, published by George Newnes Ltd in London in 1897. Illustrated with 2 maps and a black and white frontispiece of Abyssinian Library, Monastery of Souriani.In 1833, Curzon (1810-73), embarked on a tour of Greece and Egypt, amassing a large collection of valuable manuscripts. He recounted his adventures in the present work.Decorative mustard cloth hardboards with gilt lettering to spine. Minor chipping to head and tail, corners slightly bumped. Binding generally firm throughout, with only slight pull to page 33 and 192. Pencil annotations to prelims. Front free endpaper has a tear in one corner. No foxing or tanning. Very good condition. 20 cm x 13.5 cm, 307 pages.
