Description: Church was a leading authority on the chemistry of paintings. He was educated at Kings College London and then spent four years at The Royal College of Chemistry (RCC), followed by a further four years at Lincoln College, Oxford. In 1879, Church became the first professor of chemistry at the Royal Academy of Arts, and was elected fellow of the Royal Society in 1888.
