Description: This is an old stock certificate from The African Coal and Exploration Company, LImited, issued to Mary Jane Gailskell for 100 shares on March 9, 1897 and signed by directors W. J. Ganson and A. P. Hotchett and Secretary H. Prague (these names are as near as I can tell, may actually be a bit different). This was a British company, with coal mining operations in South Africa. A mention in the Apr. 24, 1897 edition of "The Economist" notes that their workings were in the Transvaal District. You will receive the exact certificate shown, #5958.
