Description: Here's a wonderfully designed, 7/8" celluloid lapel stud made for the 1896 presidential election promoting republicans William McKinley and Garret Hobart. Back then the biggest debate was over this country's monetary system; should it be currency based on gold (what republicans backed) or silver, (back by democrats)? McKinley's democrat opponent, William Jennings Bryan, promoted silver coins based on a 16 to 1 ratio to gold. Republicans made spoofs of his ideas, (we have a piece of Bryan money listed in our eBay store) and ran with the campaign slogan of "Protection and Sound Money," seen here in patriotic red, white and blue. That worked, too, since they clobbered Bryan at the polls. This is in nice condition but please enlarge our images to judge condition for yourself so you can be happy with your purchase. Shipping on it will be $5.50 sent well-protected, first class with tracking. We are members of APIC and sell only authentic presidential (and other collectible) material so buy with confidence. And we'll be happy to combine S & H costs on multiple purchases even though eBay says we don't. We just give you a refund for any overpayment. 7007
