Description: $12,000 PCGS Price Guide (CU) for non-CAC, non-CMQ as of this posting. CAC and CMQ stickers affixed AFTER slab photo taken. Flashy, deeply mirrored PROOF. Deep Cameo reverse; obverse nearly Cameo. Tiny 78 mintage with a very low survival rate. Semi-key date with just 76,270 circulation strikes minted. $9,600 auction sale in April 2022 for the only CAC PR58 of ANY date ever auctioned, a more common 1904 (click the seventh image). Yet, that was when CU was $5,000 versus its current $12,000! 🔵 CMQ = David Hall's version of a CAC sticker, which thus denotes superior eye appeal and technical quality. Hall is PCGS's founder and the greatest grading expert and coin dealer of all time. Both he and Greg Roberts, another numismatic superstar, must agree on every coin's CMQ approval. Billion-dollar companies make a buy/sell market in CMQ coins. CMQ places far more emphasis on eye appeal than CAC does. Picky CMQ approves merely a small minority of coins submitted. ✅ Green CAC = choice, high-end, possibly under-graded. ✅ Fussy CAC has approved just ONE plus merely five other PR58's of ALL dates in the entire type (1866 to 1907). Borderline CAMEO. Faint friction from a much higher grade. Even so, nicer than many PCGS PR60, PR61, and even PR62 proofs. Many tallied in the population reports (including CAC's) are resubmissions or crossovers of the same coins. Even so, this is the only non-CAM certified by NGC in ANY grade! And the lone CAC -- plus merely five other PR58's of ALL dates combined (1866 to 1907). Anyone who has ever submitted $10 Liberty proofs to CAC or CMQ knows that both almost always reject them due to excessive marks, too much friction, doctoring such as laser/mechanical smoothing or fake toning, unsightly spots, and/or other problems, whether subtle or obvious. This PR58 must be extra special for both CAC and CMQ to have approved it. TRADE SECRET: Easily PR65 CAMEO by third-tier slab and raw standards, PR66 DEEP CAMEO after the usual doctoring. Stick with NGC and PCGS, and ignore excuses from third-tier coin sellers. We know of many dealers who have become fabulously wealthy by grossly over grading gorgeous, very rare coins like this.
