Description: I have here for sale a book entitled THE LIFE AND STRANGE SURPRISING ADVENTURES OF ROBINSON CRUSOE OF YORK MARINER As Related by Himself by DANIEL DEFOE With One Hundred and Twenty Original Illustrations by Walter Paget published by Cassell & Company, Limited, London, Paris & Melbourne, in 1891. Here we have the famous story of Robinson Crusoe who was castaway on a remote desert tropical island off the coasts of Venezuela and Trinidad. It is thought that the story is based on the life of Alexander Selkirk, a Scottish cast away who lived on a Pacific island called "Mas a Tierra" (now part of Chile) which was renamed "Robinson Crusoe Island" in 1966. This edition includes 120 b/w illustrations by Paget, 14 of which are full-page. Green pictorial cloth boards with gilt lettering on the front board and spine. Marks and wear along the edges of the boards with bumping to top and bottom of the spine. Gilt page edges. Decorated endpapers. Title page in red and black lettering. Label on the front endpaper and name of previous owner on the half title page. Light foxing to endpapers, prelims, flyleaf and frontispiece illustration.
