It includes an Abbotsford introduction from 1830 and a dedicatory epistle from Laurence Templeton from 1817.Ivanhoe is the fictional story of one of the remaining Anglo-Saxon noble families at a time when the nobility in England was overwhelmingly NOrmal. It follows the Saxon protagonist, Sir Wilfred of Ivanhoe, who is out of favor with his father for Sir Wilfred's allegiance to the Norman king Richard the Lionheart. The book is in very good condition for age. The cover has a nice black and gilt design. There is only light wear at the edges and corners. The outer hinges are intact. The front inner hinge has some cracking but it holds well. The rear inner hinge is intact. The binding is excellent. The pages, although age-yellowed, are in very good condition. There is no handwriting in the book. There is a merchant label on the front endpage, John Rutherford, Book & News Dept, Next Door to the Bank, Scottdale, PA. The book measures 7 1/2 inches by 5 1/2 inches. There are 583 numbered pages and, additional 10 pages, Notes to Ivanhoe, at the back.
