First published in 1883. In the publisher's original cloth. Illustrated with monochrome engravings designed by Randolph Caldecott and engraved by J. D. Cooper. This work features a collection of fables by the legendary Greek storyteller Aesop, such as 'The Fox and the Crow', 'The Dog and the Wolf' and 'The Ass in the Lion's Skin'. The work was created as a collaboration between the brothers Alfred and Randolph Caldecott, with Alfred translating the stories from the original Greek and Randolph producing the designs. CONDITION In the publisher's original cloth. Externally smart with fading to the spine and to the gilt details to the front, slight cockling to the boards, minor marks to the boards, bumping and rubbing to the extremities and wear to the head and tail of the spine resulting in closed tears. Front hinge starting slightly with offsetting to the free endpapers. Internally firmly bound with very lightly age toned and generally clean pages with the odd handling mark.
