Teil: Mineralogie - 1st Part: MineralogyDr. A. Kenngott, Professor der Mineralogie am eidgenössichen Polytechnikum in Zürich 2. Teil: Geologie und Paläontologie - 2nd Part: Geology & PaleontologyDr. Fr. Rolle, Naturwissenschaftler und Geologe Tafel VI - Paläontologie/Paleontology Fossilien des Dyas (Perms), Idealer Durchschnitt der Dyasformation in Norddeutschland Fossils of the Permian, Ideal Intersection of the Permian formation in northern Germany Tubicaulis solenites, Odontopteris, Walchia piniformis, Cyathocrinus ramosus, Fenestella retiformis, Avicula antiqua, Modiola pallasi, Productus horridus, Platysomus gibbosus, Amblypterus macropterus The Permian is a geologic period and system which spans 47 million years from the end of the Carboniferous Period 298.9 million years ago (Mya), to the beginning of the Triassic period 251.902 Mya. It is the last period of the Paleozoic era; the following Triassic period belongs to the Mesozoic era. The concept of the Permian was introduced in 1841 by geologist Sir Roderick Murchison, who named it after the city of Perm. The Permian witnessed the diversification of the early amniotes into the ancestral groups of the mammals, turtles, lepidosaurs, and archosaurs. The world at the time was dominated by two continents known as Pangaea and Siberia, surrounded by a global ocean called Panthalassa. The Carboniferous rainforest collapse left behind vast regions of desert within the continental interior. Amniotes, who could better cope with these drier conditions, rose to dominance in place of their amphibian ancestors. The Permian (along with the Paleozoic) ended with the Permian–Triassic extinction event, the largest mass extinction in Earth's history, in which nearly 90% of marine species and 70% of terrestrial species died out. It would take well into the Triassic for life to recover from this catastrophe. Recovery from the Permian–Triassic extinction event was protracted; on land, ecosystems took 30 million years to recover. - My scanner is too small to show the full size of the plate - This over 134 years old original antique chromolithograph is taken from the very rare 1st enlarged edition of Kenngott's and Rolle's work "Naturgeschichte des Mineralreichs für Schule und Haus, Zweiter Teil: Geologie" published by "J.F.Schreiber", in Esslingen/Stuttgart, Germany, 1886. Dr. Gustav Adolf Kenngott (1818 - 1897) acquired benefit for himself with the development of the Petrology and Mineralogy to modern natural sciences. The emphasis of its work lay in systematic mineralogical investigations in the Carpathian Mountains. He is also the author of several text books of the Petrography and Mineralogy. In 1856 he became professor for Mineralogy at the "Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zurich (ETHZ)", and 19 years later he became the director of this university focusing on engineering sciences. Natural scientist Dr. Friedrich Rolle (1827 - 1887) graduated in 1852 at the University of Tübingen. He worked as geologist, consultant and advisor for some geological enterprises, took up the exchanges of letters with Charles Darwin or Ernst Haeckel while publishing several books about Geology and Paleontology.SIZE: approx. 12.48'' x 16.50''/ 31,7 cm x 41,0 cm - double folio with middle fold- QUALITY: The condition of the plate is nearly excellent (light browning, see scan), and the colors are even more shiny, clear and brilliant on the creamy white paper. All my prints are ORIGINAL ANTIQUES - each print is accompanied by a copy of the antique title!!!
