Description: Original 1883 FramedPair of Documents Baltimore First Branch City Council [ FEATURES AND DETAILS... ]The larger document is handwritten in curved-nib pen on a sheet of printed, lined letterhead about 8" x 10". Addressed to the City Comptroller, Joshua Vansant, it advises of a joint decision by both branches (First and Second) of the Baltimore City Council to pay the sum of $3000.00 to King Bros. for printing services previously performed for the City 1882-1883.The second document is a 3" x 10" receipt from King Bros., handwritten (apparently in nib or early fountain pen) on a pre-printed receipt form, acknowledging the same $3000.00. Both documents are beautifully initialed in red ink "JV" -- which is undoubtedly Joshua Vansant, the City Comptroller. Also, on the back of the main document is penned "2784" and "April 20 83" -- which is the date of the receipt. They were probably dated, folded together, and filed away all these years. The frame is modern -- solid poplar, maple stained, with gold accent. The documents are not professionally matted, so they actually overlap each other within the frame. They ought to be re-matted so both are fully visible.Framed size is approx. 12" x 16". [ CONDITION... ] - Beautiful antique condition -- from a non-smoking environment.- Both documents are in lovely condition, with no sign of abuse. - The larger document has age chipping and staining at the seams where it was folded, as well as minor chipping at the edges. - The receipt likewise has edge chipping and loss. - The frame has some small scuffs toward the bottom, which ought to be touched up. The above is my good-faith attempt to disclose all noteworthy issues. Keep in mind that vintage/antique items always show their age. (Don't we all!?) It would be impossible to mention every tiny detail, so please expect that there will be something about this item (or lot) that's not perfect and may need touch-up. PLEASE SUPERSIZE ALL PHOTOS, AND ASK ALL QUESTIONS BEFORE BIDDING/BUYING. I'LL BE GLAD TO ANSWER.Please be aware -- as with ALL antique and vintage paintings, prints, and other framed items -- that there is a potential (though unlikely) that the original paint on the frame may contain lead compounds, and (even MORE unlikely, though possible) asbestos-related materials. If this is a concern, one option is that you can apply a clear matte sealer over it so nobody comes in direct contact with the original paint.
