The letter was written by Jno Hunter Jr.John Hunter Jr. (1838-1909), was a Louisa county VA and Richmond VA attorney, and Civil War veteran. From an abstract of an online obit: "He served throughout the Civil War as a lieutenant". Other online records state that he was in the 51st Infantry. He started out as a 1st Sgt, at Charlottesville and by April 1864 he was a 2nd Lieutenant.
