Description: 1879 WESTWARD HO Frosted Glass 4-5/8" COMPOTE LID ONLY, Gillinder, Indian Finial Click images to enlarge Description ANTIQUE WESTWARD HO COMPOTE LID ONLY Striking antique frosted and clear glass compote lid measuring exactly 4-5/8" wide to the outside of the rim edge - inner flange which would set into the base is 4-1/8" wide - lid is about 4" in height. Featuring a kneeling American Indian wearing a headdress of feathers, top of frosted lid is tiered with a simple embossed log and stump design around the widest band - bottom edge rim bears a molded block pattern. Condition is good with a chip on each side of the bottom edge as shown - there is also a hint of roughness to the hand resting on his side - I think there is a tiny chip on the side of the hand - difficult to see. Issued in 1879, these are family pieces that have been passed down - they are not reproductions. This is a wonderful lid - very crisp decoration - you can clearly see the feathered skirt the Indian is wearing as well as the band around his ankles, and even the stone headed weapon resting in his hand. Think this is the most amazing pattern - finial design is solid and 3-dimensional - guessing this once fit on a small compote of butter dish - lovely addition to any home, collection or display!
