The author, John Clark Ridpath, is a famous historian. He was a Professor of History at the Indiana Asbury University and DePauw University. He was the Author of books such as, “Ridpath’s School Histories of the United States,” “Ridpath’s Inductive Grammar,” “Cyclopædia of Universal History,” “An Academic History of the United States,” “A Life and Work of Garfield,” etc., etc. This leather bound book is stunningly beautiful in the inside and out. The content is fascinating due to the timeperiod in which it was written. It gives athe history of the nation through the year year it was published, offering a historic glimpse into public perception of America and its history from nearly a century and a half ago. This rare book is an excellent educational resource for students, teachers, and lifelong learners alike. This antique book has been very well preserved over the past 150+ years and remains in great condition. It is bound in a quarter leather binding over brown pebbled boards. The spine features gold gilt text to match the text on the front cover, both bright and easily legible. There is some ribbing on the leather spine. The corners of the book are also capped in leather and show some minor rubbing as well. The spine features five decorative raised bands, giving a distinguished look to the book’s exterior. A neat script signature from a previous owner is written in ink on the first blank page of the book. Otherwise, the pages seem to be completely clean and free of markings, although each page wasn’t inspected individually. The pages are still a bright white, easily legible, and still boast sharp, crisp corners. The beautifully illustrated and full-color, double-page plates are all still present, clean, and brightly colored. This book contains a total of 709 printed pages, including a handful of Appendices and an Index at the end of the book. These Appendices contain documents such as The Constitution of the United States, Franklin’s Constitution, Washington’s Farewell Address, The Emancipation Proclamation, etc. This book concludes with a thorough alphabetical Index. All and all, this is a scarcely found American History textbook that is as captivating as it is stunningly beautiful. It remains in Very Good condition, both on the inside and out.
