Description: MRS. HILL'S NEW COOK BOOK A PRACTICAL SYSTEM FOR PRIVATE FAMILIES, IN TOWN AND COUNTRY. WITH DIRECTIONS FOR CARVING AND ARRANGING THE TABLE FOR DINNERS, PARTIES, ETC., TOGETHER WITH MANY MEDICAL RECEIPTS EXTREMELY USEFUL TO FAMILIES. HOUSEKEEPING MADE EASY. Annabella P. Hill (1810-1878) was a socially prominent Georgia native whose encyclopedic treasury of 19th century recipes, cooking advice, and household hints was first published in 1867. This classic receipt book is considered one of the most influential books of the post Civil War South. Early printed "receipt books" contained a variety of culinary recipes, medical remedies, and instructions for making household products. 19th century housewives and their servants were expected to treat illness, stitch wounds, and make soaps, candles, and dyes as well as prepare meals. Original publisher's green cloth with gilt titling to spine. 427[pp]. Hardcover in very good condition with soiling to exterior boards/edges and edgewear, rubbed corners. Foxing/staining to some of the pages but nothing that obscures text. Spine is a little loose but no loose pages. Recipes written on the last two blank pages. All of my books are bubble wrapped and shipped securely in a box with packing materials. I am glad to combine purchases to minimize shipping expenses. Standard mail is USPS Media Mail. Expedited and international shipping are also available upon request.
