Description: Up for sale is a great, original, ANTIQUE MAP from "REPORTS OF EXPLORATIONS AND SURVEYS TO ASCERTAIN THE PRACTICABILITY OF A SHIP-CANAL, BETWEEN THE ATLANTIC AND PACIFIC OCEANS, BY THE WAY OF THE ISTHMUS OF TEHUANTEPEC (MEXICO) - NAVY DEPARTMENT". 1872 It is a black and white map, "RECONNAISSANCE - OF THE USPANAPA RIVER". By the Hydrographic Party under the Command of Commander Norman H. Farquhar U.S.N. March 1871. It has several folds from how it was originally bound. It is blank on the reverse side. It is approximately 27" x 20", including the border area. This map is from "REPORTS OF EXPLORATIONS AND SURVEYS TO ASCERTAIN THE PRACTICABILITY OF A SHIP-CANAL, BETWEEN THE ATLANTIC AND PACIFIC OCEANS, BY THE WAY OF THE ISTHMUS OF TEHUANTEPEC - NAVY DEPARTMENT" by Robert W. Shufeldt, Captain United States Navy. Made under the Direction of the Secretary of the Navy. 1872 Government Printing Office, Washington, DC. Forty-Second Congress, Second Session. E.A. Fuertes Chief Engineer. It is generally in Good Condition. There is age related browning and toning and some spotting and stains. There are nicks/chips and some creases along the edges. There are some tears at the corners of the folds. Other dings here and there, as well. This would be a great addition to any collection and will look very nice when framed! Please note that while I have included a picture of the Title Page of the book that this plate was taken from, it is NOT included in the sale, as it is a reference piece to determine authenticity for other plates, maps/engravings.
