Description: I am offering a very rare 1868 shield nickel with rather noticeable doubling on the obverse. The circle under the cross as well as the cross are doubled, along with the bottom of several leaves and underneath some of the curls in the shield. The shield is vaguely outlined, with nearly all of the leaves and berries defined and a good amount of shield lines remain visible. Almost every letter of IN GOD WE TRUST can be read, and only the smallest curve of the 6 and part of the 8 remain visible of the date (although the doubling helps confirm the year). Most of the lettering can be read on the reverse, a majority of the stars are visible and the 5 is showing. Unfortunately, this coin has a square hole through it, but does not appear to have been cleaned. Please use the pictures to determine the grade and feel free to ask any questions that you have. Will ship next day once payment is received. Check out my other coins for sale as shipping is free for multiple purchases.
