Writing under the pseudonym Holme Lee, the works of Harriet Parr were well-reviewed in her life time and some novels were also published in America. Prior owner's ink inscription to the front paste down. The inscription reads, 'Henry, from his aff. Grandmamma Matilda W Vernon. Cowley House, Oxford, Dec 25. 1844' Four pages of publisher's adverts to the rear. CONDITION In the publisher's original blue cloth binding. Externally, sound. Rubbed to the boards and the spine, with a two-inch tear to the front joint near the tail. The spine is missing a slither of cloth to both the head and the tail. The front hinge has failed, and is held on by cords only. The rear hinge is starting, and is a little tender. Internally, the binding is a little loose. Pages are generally bright and clean with the odd patch of light scattered foxing. Overall Condition: Good Only GLOSSARY OF TERMS Overall Condition (Dustwrapper condition rating is shown after that for the book itself, where a dustwrapper is present) Fine - Very well preserved copy showing very little wear Very Good Indeed - Only one or two minor faults, really a very attractive copy Very Good - Quite a wide term meaning no major faults but probably several smaller ones often expected given the age of the book, but still a respectable copy Good - Meaning not very good. Some more serious faults as will be described in the condition report under 'condition' Good Only - Meaning one or more faults that could really do with repair Fair - As with good only above but with other faults leaving a compromised copy even after repair Poor - Really bad and possibly seriously incomplete.
