Description: Because this card pictures a ballplayer on front with advertising on back, it has been described as the world’s first baseball card. The 2-7/16" x 4-1/16" card doubled as a ticket to a benefit (to the players!) series of matches between New York and Brooklyn teams and all-stars at Hoboken, N.J., in Sept., 1863. The ticket cards were sold for 50 cents apiece, twice the cost of regular admission. According to surviving records, photos of four different players were used on the tickets. This is a set of 8 cards. Players are..... Crossley, Hammond, George Wright, Harry Wright and Sam Wright. I will combine shipping on multiple orders.
