1862 Texas Currency - Wilderness Battlefield - Civil War Bullets - 4489

Description: The original hand signed 1862 State of Texas “Five Dollars” note was issued from Austin, Texas. The note has the hand inscribed serial number “113360” and date. The note was issued for Military Service. Original lead ammunition found on the Wilderness Battlefield in Virginia. The bullet at center is a .58 Federal issue made in the Northern arsenals. It hasn’t been fired; whether from the paper cartridge breaking or that it was possibly wet and discarded. The one at left is a Confederate issue .57 Enfield either imported from England or made with imported molds. The one at right is a .58 Federal issue Williams Cleaner used to clean black powder residue out of the rifle barrel. They all used a paper cartridge which has not survived in the ground. The brownish color or patina is due to oxidation and ground action. Most of the bullets found at Bentonville have this brownish color due to the pine saps leaching in the ground over the years. The Wilderness, near Fredericksburg, Virginia, was the first battle in 1864 between General Grant’s “Army of the Potomac” and General Lee’s “Army of Northern Virginia”. It was the beginning of what would be called Grant’s “Overland Campaign” to take the Confederate capitol at Richmond. They are mounted in an 8” x 12” Riker style case with glass front. The artifacts are just pressed in, we don’t glue them in. All of the artifacts are guaranteed to be original Civil War issue or as stated. A hand signed and dated “Certificate of Authenticity” will be issued by Collectors Frame with a photograph and description of the items purchased. Please see our "About” for more information on the framing and artifacts.
