1860 English Black Lacquer Chinoiserie 20" Tilt-Top Pedestal Table Abalone Inlay

Description: Elegant 19th century English-made chinoiserie style tilt-top table, circa 1860. Truly stylish take on this classic form - the top has an extremely well-detailed garden scene with a group of scholars. Exotic trees and plants and architectural elements - all set against a crackled black lacquer ground, bordered with a half-inch abalone mosaic band. The outside edge of the table features a Greek key band done in gilt. The baluster-turned standard and tripod-pedestal base are exuberantly decorated with painted gilt scrollwork and the top edge of the legs are decorated with inlaid abalone as well. The underside of the table has two sold oak braces, and the piece has its original brass lock/release mechanism. The top of the base still has its original antique label complete with inventory number. In exceptional original condition. Structurally without any issues - sits levelly and the lock and hinge under the top work evenly and smoothly. All three legs are without any issues or restoration - a rare find in a table of this type. The black lacquer and paint are all original - no touch-ups or overpainting. The shell inlay is complete as well. There is a small area of pock marks on the top, very small, but they do not break the surface. Dimensions: 27.5” tall. The top is 19” in diameter and .75” thick.
