Description: An Arctic Boat Journey, In The Autumn of 1854. By Isaac I. Hayes and published in Boston by Brown, Taggard and Chase. 1860, 375 pp, 5.5x8’’, hardcover binding. In as-is condition. Covers and spine have age-related toning and wear that has caused discoloration. There are tears present along the edges, and the corners of the covers are bent inwards. Both cover boards are loose, with the back cover board almost detached. Pages have age-related toning and foxing. The two fold-out maps at the beginning of the volume are torn at the creases or the hinges, but the image remains in good condition, as pictured. Hinges are loose in some places, but pages remain attached and generally well supported throughout. Edges of pages have age-related toning and wear. Please see photographs and ask any questions prior to purchasing. Isaac Israel Hayes was an American physician and Arctic explorer. While attending the University of Pennsylvania’s College of Medicine, Hayes took on many different exploration trips and wrote his findings and thoughts on what he saw, which he published into different works throughout his life. After graduating, he worked as a ship surgeon to continue his travels while pursuing his life goal of being a successful doctor and surgeon. Issues with the hinges and the binding could provide an excellent opportunity for rebinding and restoration, if desired. COLT1860BHJO
