Having entered the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1814, when he was barely 13 years old, Victor Adam exhibited his first paintings in 1819. He was a student of Charles Meynier, then of Baron Regnault. He later tried his hand at lithography and it was ultimately in this form of artistic expression that he expressed himself from 1823, producing nearly 8,000 plates.Roland or Hruotland (Hruodland in Frankish), known as "Roland the valiant", born in the region of Trier and died in 778 in Roncevaux, was a Frankish knight, urban count of Trier then count of the Marches of Brittany, responsible for defending the border of the kingdom of the Franks against the Bretons, and – according to legend – nephew of Charlemagne.
