Alexis Muston (1810-1888) was initially a priest of the Waldensian Evangelical Church in Italy, but he was forced to flee to France because of his writings on the Waldensians, which contradicted the Bishop of Pinerolo. In this work, Muston tells the story of the persecution of the Waldensians or Waldenses, who were part of an ascetic movement within Western Christianity, at odds with the Catholic Church. The text was translated from French to English by the notable critic William Hazlitt (1778-1830), and is illustrated throughout. CONDITION In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, fairly smart, with a little shelf wear to the boards, extremities, and head and tail of the spine, and darkening to the spine. Internally, firmly bound.
