C. Church in London, and more.Adverts throughout.'The Builder' was founded by Joseph Aloysius Hansom in 1843. Under the editorship of George Godwin the magazine became an important and successful professional architectural magazine. An important periodical, it offers an interesting insight into the developments in architecture during the year, with in-depth articles on various prominent buildings being built or proposed.Including a mention of New York Crystal Palace, which was constructed in this year for the Exhibition of the Industry of All Nations in New York City. This World's Fair was held in what is now Bryant Park, showcasing the new industrial achievements of the world. Interestingly Elisha Otis demonstrated an elevator at this event equipped with a device called a 'safety', which addressed a major public concern regarding the safety of elevators.Also with illustrations and articles on the Dublin Industrial Exhibition, held in this year, which was the largest international event to be held in Ireland. Funded by William Dargan, the Exhibition ran from the 12th May to 31 October, and was visited by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.Both of these Exhibitions were held in the wake of the highly successful 1851 Great Exhibition in London.Collated, bound without the final leaf. CONDITION Rebound in a cloth binding. Externally, with some rubbing and marks to the boards. Loss of cloth to the extremities. Light bumping to the spine and extremities. Institutional labels and ink to the spine. Small crack to the head of the rear joint. Front hinge is starting but firm. Institutional label to the front pastedown, and stamp to the recto to the front endpaper and verso to the rear endpaper. Internally firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with just a few very light handling marks. A little edge wear to some pages due to how they were cut. Institutional blind stamp to the title page, with a small stamp to a few other pages. Overall Condition: Good GLOSSARY OF TERMS Overall Condition (Dustwrapper condition rating is shown after that for the book itself, where a dustwrapper is present) Fine - Very well preserved copy showing very little wear Very Good Indeed - Only one or two minor faults, really a very attractive copy Very Good - Quite a wide term meaning no major faults but probably several smaller ones often expected given the age of the book, but still a respectable copy Good - Meaning not very good. Some more serious faults as will be described in the condition report under 'condition' Good Only - Meaning one or more faults that could really do with repair Fair - As with good only above but with other faults leaving a compromised copy even after repair Poor - Really bad and possibly seriously incomplete.
