Description: 1851 Canada No. 1, 3d beaver, a damaged copy on a cover from Galt, Waterloo County, to Woolwich. The Woolwich post office opened in 1837, and changed its name to Winterburn in 1858. Posted at Galt July 24, by a double broken circle, and received in Woolwich July 26 (double broken circle, manuscript date). It is from the Galt Report (a newspaper founded in 1846) and is addressed to James Dow. The Woolwich Township council was oganized on January 21 1850, and named Mr. Dow its clerk and treasurer. Mr. Dow (A Scottish immigrant and farmer) served from 1850 - 53). This folded letter is a request to the Township council, for payment of an outstanding debt to the newspaper, but most of the letter is a request for ongoing information of local (Woolwich) events. The cover has been placed on a black background, to better show the edges. Pay only 50c shipping for each additional item shipped at the same time.
