Banvard (1815-1891) was a panoramic portrait painter, and remains best-known for his moving panoramas of the Mississippi River Valley. Following success in the United States, Banvard traveled to Europe, giving a private Demonstration to Queen Victoria in 1849, and additionally traveled to paint in Egypt and the Holy Land.
