Description: La Sainte Bible. Qui Contient Le Vieux Et Le Nouveau Testament; Revue Sur Les Originaux. By David Martin and printed in New York City by the Societe Biblique Americaine. 1849, 261 pp, 7.5 x 5”, 12mo, decorative Victorian morocco leather boards. In good condition, with minor rubbing to boards, along with edges and corners. Hinges are in good condition, with slight wear at the front and back. Text block is complete and bound well, with gilt edges to pages. General age-related toning to pages, along with light foxing. Please see photographs and ask any questions prior to purchasing. A scarce work, made even more so by a library bookplate on the front pastedown from the Edwin Forrest Home. Inscribed on the first two end pages, one of them from “Willie”, which cannot be confirmed if this was Forrest’s nickname. Edwin Forrest (1806-1872) was a prominent American Shakespearean actor, whose philanthropic efforts helped create the Edwin Forrest Home in Philadelphia, which was meant to assist financially struggling entertainers and later merged into the Actors Fund of America. An extremely scarce piece of American history that may have once been in the personal possession of an influential actor and philanthropist. COLR1849DKLAaj1522
