Description: May 24, 1844 Carl Friedrich Schulz (German painter) Original Pencil Drawing On PaperSigned and Dated from Frankfurt [Oder] by the Artist This is an extremely uncommon original pencil drawing by German artist Carl Friedrich Schulz. It is dated "Frankfurt [Oder] 24th May 1844" at lower left, and is signed "Carl Schulz" at lower right. Measures approx. 15 inches by 11.75 inches. Carl Friedrich Schulz (1796-1866) was a German painter, born in Frankfurt [Oder], then known as Frankfurt an der Oder, who was best known for his hunting, maritime, military and landscape scenes. He studied at the art academies in Berlin and Dusseldorf. In 1814 and 1815 Schulz fought in the wars against Napoleon. Then he traveled to the Rhineland, France. England and the Netherlands, where he painted sea studies and copied paintings by Jan van Eyck by order of the Gemaldegalerie Berlin. In 1841 Schulz was appointed professor at the Academy in Berlin. In 1847 he worked for the Russian Czar in St. Petersburg. He earned the name " Jagdschulz" (Hunting Schulz) for his famous hunting scenes. CONDITION: About Good condition. Some dampstaining spots, also going down the right edge. Some light spotting and chipping to the left and top edges. Please also refer to the images to further view condition.
