Description: At 28 inches long the London Spring plate has a bad bow and cracked lambs tongue but then who really needs to use a saw from the 1840's. When I put a flashlight to the die stamp from the side in just the right angle I can see a shadow of an 8, I think, it is between Henry Disston and Philada, should be underneath but I don't see it there. The die stamp font and size compare to one shown on a blank medallion No 8 on the Disstonian Institute. By the cut of the handle, double nibs top and bottom, it compares to the No 9's from the period I have but the shadow says 8? This is the scarce first type medallion from the earliest of Disstons work, you can be pretty sure he had a hands on role in the making of this saw. You can also see an eagle in the die stamp, another sign of an early Disston saw and another reason I think it may be an 8, the 9 I have has three eagle and I only see one here.
