Description: I have here for sale a copy of a book entitled THE HOLY BIBLE, Containing the Old and New Testaments: Translated out of The Original Tongues: and with the Former Translations Diligently Compared and Revised, by His Majesties Special Command. Appointed to be Read in Churches. Printed at the University Press, Oxford, for the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge, London, in 1840. Brown leather boards with a blind stamped decorative design around an oval centre piece with blind stamped lettering of Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge 1698. Wear to the leather with patches rubbed off on the rear board. Rubbing to corners and minor marks. Wear to the leather on the spine particularly at the top and bottom. Brown endpapers with cut out pieces of paper showing Burials, Baptisms, and a Marriage from 1892 affixed to the front endpaper. Staining to title page and bottom of pages. All pages are firm and the book is in very good condition.
