Description: Hard to find, November 1840 complete issue of Blackwood's Edinburgh Magazine (American Edition). A good copy that has some wear/soil to paper wrappers. Nice and clean text. Some pages still uncut. 143 page issue. Some highlights I find include: Archibald Alison's opening the issue essay" Ten Years of Whig Government." "Delta" (David Macbeth Moir) contributes a verse narrative on generations of the De Quincey Family, "De Quincey's Revenge." Greek scholar Frederick Holme's "A Third Chapter (of 10) of Turkish History: The Fall of Bagdad." William Henry Smith's "Review of an Unpublished Tragedy." George Croly on "The Caucasus War." Russia vs. just about everybody with lands touching upon the Black Sea. It continued, on and off, under a myriad of rulers on all sides, 1817-1864. The lands are still in turmoil (Russia and Ukraine, etc.) today. Novelist Samuel Warren's serial novel, Part XIII, Ten Thousand A-Year. It was serialized in the monthly over 21 installments. Published in book form in England in three volumes, it represents one of the earliest "Lawyer" related fictional novels that we have. It was published in England in three volumes, and in America in six volumes, today a rare and expensive find. The Irish poet Bartholomew Simmons's new story, "The Bridegroom of Barna." There is also a group of unsigned poems in this number. Some author identifications above are drawn from The Wellesley Index, I, 61-62.
