An instant success, it both solidified Dickens as a social critic and marked his first of many romances. A beautiful copy. In 624 pages. There is some shelfwear to the corners and rubbing to the boards. It has been rebound in the original deluxe half-leather binding with new endpapers. There is very minimal scattered foxing to some pages. There is no evidence of water or damp. There are no previous owners' names or inscriptions. All plates are present and mostly foxing free which is very unusual. The bottom right small marginal corner of page 73 is missing, the plate opposite page 174 has a chip out of the left blank margin, the top of pages 189/190 have a vertical graze tear like, pages 331 to 340 have a closed tear in the blank margin, and the plate opposite page 372 has a short closed tear to the bottom margin, otherwise, there are no missing, loose, stained, or damaged pages.
