ITEM DETAILS Title: The Coleopterist’s Manual, Part the Second, Containing the Predaceous Land and Water Beetles of Linneus and FabriciusAuthor: Frederick William Hope Publisher: Henry G. Bohn, LondonPublication Date: 1838Edition: 1st Edition Condition: Acceptable ITEM DESCRIPTION Today we are pleased to offer this volume on Coleoptera by Frederick Hope! A great find from a local New England estate! This scarce antique first edition is over 186 years old! 1st Edition. Ex-library. A rare volume to find in any condition! Unfortunately the binding on this example exhibits heavy wear, however the text block inside is nicely preserved! A perfect candidate for a fresh modern binding! Original publisher cloth binding is completely detached from the text block, and shows heavy chipping to the spine. While the binding currently remains in one piece, it is in a precarious state, and the front board will eventually snap off without repair. Other wear includes rubbing and soiling to the boards and spine, general wear around the extremities including bumping to the corners, and some rubbing and soiling to the page edges. Internally, this volume shows some cracking at the inner hinge, and while the text block remains in one piece, the last page grouping (page 161 until the end of the plates) is loosely attached. There is a library bookplate pasted to the front pastedown endpaper as well, but no other markings were observed during inspection. The text block of this volume is very clean throughout. Most pages are uncut. There is typical age-related toning to the pages, and some light soiling or foxing, as well as image ghosting on the pages opposite the hand-colored engravings, but otherwise this volume is clean and free from rips, tears, writing and markings. Perfectly readable throughout! Nicely illustrated with a hand-colored frontispiece and three pages of hand colored plated in back. Make sure to see the photographs above for complete details. 168 pages with illustrated plates in back. Measures approximately 9 1/2 inches tall by 6 inches wide. A perfect addition to any fine collection or a wonderful gift for someone special! Price includes FAST, FREE shipping! Buy with confidence! This item has been carefully inspected by hand.
