Description: 1837 Engraving titled: "Confluence of the Seine and Marne" from "Rivers of France" sets of engravings from J.M.W. Turner's drawings. Joseph Mallord William Turner (1775-1851) is acknowledged as the most important landscape artist in the history of the British Isles. Engravings were printed by J. McCormick, London, and were compiled in a volume with text in English and French languages by Longman, Rees, Orme, Brown, Green & Longman, London. Engravers (listed on each print) included R. Brandard, J.T. Willmore, W. Miller, James B. Allen, R. Wallis & J. Cousen. Lesser numbers by W. Radelyffe, T. Jeavons, J.C. Armytage, Thos. Higham, W. R. Smith, S. Fisher and J. Smith. The engraving is done on a 8 1/4" x 10 3/4" sheet with an image area of approximately 3 7/8" x 5 3/8". Some discoloration from foxing visible on print. A descriptive sheet with text in English on one side and French on the other side included. These engravings are now over 180 years old. Temporary matting was used for photographic purposes.
