An early ninteenth century view of England and the English, seen through a series of letters by the French Count. With chapters on; Ascot, Grouse Shooting, The Needles, Dining etc. With an engraved frontispiece to each volume. The contents of this work have been collated: Vol 1; vii, 291pp. Vol 2; viii, 296pp. Bound in 3/4 calf with marbled paper covered boards. Four raised bands to spine. Gilt lettered to black morocco label at spine. The books measure 12cm by 19cm. Condition: The bindings are holding; wear to calf at the extremities, minor loss to corners. Spines sunned and rubbed, marbled boards worn. Contents holding, although hinges cracked; bookplate to pastedown of volume 1, blocks intact, sporadic spotting in places, staining to vol 2 title page, some toning, but majority of leaves clean.
