Associated with the Hydrographic Office of the Admiralty, the magazine provided reviews of Admiralty charts and publications, articles on hazards to navigation, and reports on maritime surveys. As the century progressed, it documented the Crimean War and the First and Second Opium Wars, the construction of the Suez Canal, and ultimately futile search for Sir John Franklin's lost expedition in search of the NorthWest Passage. This issue contains, inter alia, articles on; 'Navigation of the St. Lawrence', 'Description of a Sextant having an additional Horizon Glass', and 'On the Navigation of the Black Sea'. ~ About Antiquates We’re based in the heart of the Dorset countryside, with an antiquarian bookshop in Wareham, housed within a beautiful Grade II Listed Georgian Building, we also travel far and wide to buy, sell and advise on rare books.
