When production of this denomination resumed in 1816, the Mint replaced John Reich's Classic design with a new type created by Robert Scot. Scot's coins have gone by many names over the years, some of which are Tammany Cents, Liberty Head Cents, Coronet Cents and Matron Head Cents. The final description is probably the most universally accepted, and it is the name under which this series is listed in the 2007 edition of the invaluable reference "A Guide Book of United States Coins" by R.S. Yeoman. The Matron Head series proper ends in 1835 (some sources state 1837), after which a period of experimentation ensued during which the Mint searched for a suitable replacement. These "Modified Matron Head Cents" were struck into 1839, Mint personnel finally settling on Christian Gobrecht's Braided Hair design for long-term production.Store CategoriesStores HomeColonialsHalf CentsLarge CentsSmall CentsTwo-Cent PiecesThree-Cent SilversNickelsHalf DimesDimesTwenty-Cent PiecesQuarter DollarsHalf DollarsSeated DollarsTrade DollarsMorgan DollarsPeace DollarsOne Dollar GoldTwo Fifty GoldThree Dollar GoldFive Dollar GoldTen Dollar GoldTwenty Dollar GoldCommemorative GoldThree-Cent NickelsOther
