Gilt decoration to the panels and gilt lettering to the panels. Binding is in very good condition. Volume 1 has the Armorial bookplate of Napoleon Bonaparte Wyse from the Manor of St John with a circular armorial also to the front pastedown of Alexander Lawson Duncan . The paperwork seen in the photo is a postage sheet addressed to Dr Anne Sutton, (Please see Wikipedia) Volume 1 - 2 end papers + pull out plan of Chester , toned, + title page with transference + 1pp dedication + iv + Armorial Bearings of the City of Chester + 431pp + pull out plan of fortification plan + 7 plates (one with tear of 2cm from fore edge just stopping before words of the plate. All plates toned with opposite pages with transference. All other pages very clean and in good order. Volume 2 - Bookplate removed from front paste down and infilled with paper + 2 end papers + pull out "ground plot of Chester " + attached to the top a "South West prospect of Chester" + Title page + 444pp + 4pp index + 16 plates including the pull out for the lunatic asylum . Toned as above and also 1 with tear to the plate mark for about 16 cm along the fore edge without loss. Text pages very clean other than transference as above. A Handsome looking set.
