Description: Antique Pair of Framed Under Glass Miniature Oil Paintings On Wood depicting Colonel Nathaniel Fenton at age 66 and his wife Rachel Fenton at age 64. Overall size for each framed miniature painting is approximately 5 3/8 X 4 5/16 inches. Nathaniel Fenton died in 1846 at age 83. Since his portrait was painted at age 66 this puts the date of the paintings being made in 1829. Nathaniel’s portrait was painted in Albany New York and Rachel’s portrait was taken in Jamestown New York as the reverse states in pen. Colonel Nathaniel Fenton was born in Mansfield Connecticut in 1763. He was a Revolutionary War soldier who enlisted in the Continental Army several times. He did battle on the New York and Connecticut lines. Paintings are framed in hand painted wood and under glass. The backs have pen written descriptions of when each portrait was painted. The miniature paintings are only held in the frame by a single nail on the reverse so they are very loosely framed. Will have wear and defects from age. I apologize for the reflections in the glass. Please see the detailed photos for measurements. As found in a Maine Estate. Thanks!
