A first edition of this translated collection. Roscoe's provides biographical and critical introductions to his translations of works by nearly forty Italian authors, including Giovanni Boccacio, Alessandro Sozzini, Francesco Soave, and Luigi Sanvitale. Binder's sticker to front pastedown. 'Bound by Galwey & Co., Eustace St. Dublin', in all volumes except the last. Prior owner's bookplate to front pastedown of all four volumes. 'Oliver Brett'. Prior owner's ink inscription to verso of front endpaper in volume I. CONDITION Rebound in half calf over red marbled boards. Externally smart, with some shelf wear only. Lightly rubbed to the boards, with some minor scuffing to the spine. Some marginal rubbing at the head of the spine, and some minor wear to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound with bright pages. The odd spot throughout, but generally limited to the first and last few pages.
