Evstafiy Ivanovich Oldenkop (real name Oldekop Christian Wilhelm August von. 1787, Riga - 1845, St. Petersburg) - censor, philologist, publisher, teacher and scientific writer, translator. By nationality he was a Baltic German. Born in Riga in the family of a notary. He received his education first at an elementary school in his native city, then in 1804-1805 he studied at the provincial gymnasium. After completing secondary education, he entered Moscow University, where he studied philology, medicine and the natural sciences. From 1811 he taught in Russian schools. From 1822 to 1840 he served as a censor in the censorship committee under the Ministry of Police and in the 3rd department of the Imperial Chancellery. From 1843 he was an official in the Ministry of the Interior. He was engaged in the publication of German-language periodicals in Russia, was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
