His dictionary first appeared in 1755 and was highly acclaimed as the foremost dictionary of the time. This volume is prefixed by A History of the Language and An English Grammar. The Second volume begins with 'kay.'Bound in full calf. With a bookplate for Frederick W. Barber. With a selection articles of to the rear of volume two about the Samuel Johnson. CONDITION In full calf leather binding. Externally, a little worn to the boards and spine with some rubbing. Hinges are weak,. Internally, generally firmly bound though with the first few pages to the front of volume one beginning to come away. Pages are generally bright with some scattered spots throughout. With a bookplate for Frederick W. Barber to front pastedown of both volumes.
