1822 " Genevieve de Brabant " Antique Toile de Normandy The Textile T

Difficult to show in only 10 photographs!~ Its incredible! ~*~ This wonderful bed cover is French and dates c 1822. This would have traveled behind the bed and over the top!~ This toile is titled " Genevieve de Brabant " This toile was printed in Normandy in 1822, perhaps ( and most likely) printed in Bolbec. This toile is a subdued purple , wonderful sienna purple, with hint of eggplant . Its a gorgeous tone, muted and softly faded with time ~*~ It tells a story of the medieval legend of Genevieve; condemned to death for a crime by abandonment in the forest with her newborn son, only to be found by her husband who was hunting. She was proven innocent of her crime. There is a touching scene of the man being reunited with his son ~*~ This textile is backed in a hand woven linen and is hand stitched. . There is a light cotton batting between the layers. A wonderful and rare toile, its the first in 14 years of this toile that I have found! ~*~ ( please see my other textiles for the matching bed set pieces) MEASUREMENTS: This beautiful textile measures approximately 115 inches by 75 inches. The area of width for the bed is 49 inches wide, so bed size was approx. 49 inches by 75 inches with the sides extended CONDITION: This textile is in as found, unwashed condition with light storage dust. There are some small spots of damage, very small! ~ , some small holes~ For its tremendous age, this textile is in lovely condition, however not without flaws inherent in these wonderful antique textiles~*~ Inventory # : (toile G78) 20220111 .
